Founding Principals
The founders of AlphaHedge Capital Partners, LLC, Greg Horn and Kent Bonniwell, have a proven track record of success in both the managed accounts and hedge fund industry. In 1999, Greg and Kent co-founded ADVISORport, an industry leading managed accounts platform which has grown to over $100 billion in assets.
In 1992, Greg co-founded Ashbridge Investment Management, Inc., a multi-family office that grew from $80 million to nearly $1 billion. In 1998, Greg and Kent formed the current Philadelphia based research partner, Persimmon Capital Management, LP, a boutique investment advisory firm focused on alternative strategies with several pooled hedge fund vehicles.
AlphaHedge, working in conjunction with our affiliate, Persimmon Capital Management, LP, combines the benefits of fundamental and quantitative research with the latest technology to identify, research and select experienced hedge fund managers to participate on the AlphaHedge platform. We feel there is no substitute for experience and diligence.
Gregory S. Horn, Chairman & CEO
Mr. Horn founded Persimmon Capital Management, LP in December of 1998 to provide investment consulting services to family offices, high net worth families, foundations and endowments. In 1999, Mr. Horn also founded ADVISORport, Inc., which was sold to PFPC Worldwide in 2003 with $40 billion in assets under administration and then fully transitioned into PNC Financial by the end of 2005. The platform name was changed to PNC Managed Investments Inc., a PNC Financial subsidiary, and subsequently sold in 2010 to BNY/Mellon. PNC Managed Investments, now merged with Lockwood, a subsidiary of BNY/ Mellon, provides technology and operational infrastructure outsourcing services to enterprise financial services companies such as large broker-dealers.
Prior to the formation of Persimmon, Mr. Horn was the President and co-founder of Ashbridge Investment Management, Inc., a multi-family office serving ultra high net worth family groups, foundations and endowments. Beginning in 1992 he developed all facets of the investment consulting firm where assets under supervision grew from $80 million to nearly $1 billion by 1998. Ashbridge was an industry leader in the inclusion of alternative strategies within ultra high net worth and institutional portfolios, which included hedge funds, managed futures, and other alternative investments. Prior to Ashbridge, Mr. Horn was a Vice President of Mellon Bank, heading the Personal and Family division of Mellon Private Capital Management, the ultra high net worth group within Mellon's Trust Department. Prior to Mellon, Mr. Horn was affiliated with Mid-Atlantic Companies in middle market mergers/acquisitions and investment advisory and was a Vice President for the real estate investment banking arm of American Express. Mr. Horn is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, where he received a bachelor's degree and an MBA. Persimmon Capital Management, LP, has been vetted and named as a Worth Leading Wealth Advisor and is a contributor to Worth magazine on a bi-monthly basis.
Kent G. Bonniwell, President & COO
Prior to founding the Company, Mr. Bonniwell was Head of Managed Account Solutions at Thomson Reuters (2010-2011). Prior to Thomson Reuters he co-founded ADVISORport, an industry leading Unified Managed Account platform for financial advisors. The platform is web-based and includes investment proposal generation, client reporting, account rebalancing/trading, and access to third-party money managers. He lead the product and platform development initiatives as SVP of Business Solutions (1999-2010). Under Kent's direction the company continued to grow to over $110 billion in assets under supervision and has since been merged with Lockwood Financial under the Bank of New York Mellon corporate umbrella. Prior to ADVISORport he co-founded PCM with Mr. Horn in December of 1998, to provide investment consulting services to family‑controlled entities, high net worth families, foundations and endowments. Mr. Bonniwell was previously a Vice President and Director of Research and Systems for Ashbridge Investment Management, Inc., between 1995 and 1998, where he was responsible for the implementation of a scalable portfolio accounting system and managed all information databases and systems for the company. Prior to Ashbridge, Mr. Bonniwell was an auditor for Ernst & Young LLP in Philadelphia from 1993 to 1995. He is a graduate of Franklin & Marshall College with a BA in Accounting.
Sarah M. Driscoll, Head Trader
Previous to Alpha Hedge, Ms. Driscoll was the Chief Operating Officer and Head Trader at Mistral Capital Partners from 2007 until 2011. She was responsible for all aspects of Mistral’s business, including human resources, systems, trading, compliance and risk management. From 2005 to 2007, she was Vice President – Head Trader Global Equities at Hartford Investment Management managing a trading desk executing for multiple strategies with $7 billion under management in addition to overseeing all compliance, operations and technology. Prior to that, from 2002 to 2005, she was a Partner and Head Trader at Lyceum Capital, a start-up hedge fund where she was instrumental in building the trading platform, and managing operations, SEC Registration, and Compliance. Earlier in her career, she was Managing Director – Sales Trading at Schwab Capital Markets, co-managing the Boston office and covering major accounts such as Putnam, MFS, State Street Research, State Street Global Advisors and Vinik Asset Management. She also held positions at Fidelity Capital Markets and Dean Witter Reynolds. She holds a BS in Economics from Hamilton College.
John P. Conner, Jr., Vice President, Sales Director
John has been working with high net worth and ultra-high net worth advisors, banks, trust companies, and family offices for nearly five years. Prior to joining Persimmon, John was Senior Sales Associate at Fortigent, LLC, a boutique outsourced wealth management provider based in Rockville, MD. At Fortigent, his responsibilities included the marketing and distribution of traditional and alternative manager research, white-labeled asset allocation and portfolio construction services as well reconciled and aggregated performance reporting solutions along the East Coast. Prior to Fortigent, John worked at SEI Investments in Oaks, PA focusing on West Coast business development initiatives in SEI’s Advisor Network. John received a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA.
Michael M. Straubel, Vice President, Sales Director
Prior to joining Persimmon, Mike worked for SEI Investments in SEI's corporate headquarters in Oaks, Pennsylvania, as well as SEI's European headquarters in London, England. During his career at SEI, Mike’s responsibilities included product development, relationship management and business development. Within product development, he focused specifically on designing the portfolio management services of the SEI Wealth Platform; including the Unified Managed Account and Unified Managed Household overlay functionality. During 2011 and into 2012, he was a member of the technical sales team in the United Kingdom, where he supported business development agendas for the SEI Wealth Platform with private banks, IFAs and money managers. Following his expatriate assignment, he returned to the United States to help launch the business development efforts of the SEI Wealth Platform to banks, trust companies, and RIAs. Prior to SEI Investments, he worked for The Vanguard Group, providing client relationship services to defined contribution and defined benefit plan participants. Mike earned his BA from Gettysburg College and is currently pursuing a Masters in Financial Services from Saint Joseph's University.
Research Partner – Persimmon Capital Management, LP
Todd E. Dawes, Partner, Senior Vice President, Persimmon Capital Management, LP
Prior to joining Persimmon in 2006, Mr. Dawes worked at ADVISORport, Inc. since November of 2000 as the Director of Research where he directed the investment manager research process and managed a team of 5 analysts. Prior to ADVISORport Mr. Dawes worked at CMS Investment Resources in Philadelphia, providing manager due diligence and statistical research for the Alternative Investments Division. Mr. Dawes also worked in support of CMS’s Market Neutral Hedge Fund as well as their Structured Product Fund. Prior to CMS, Mr. Dawes worked for a family-owned and controlled commercial contractor in Detroit, where his responsibilities included client relations, bidding, proposals, sourcing, code-adherence and the overall day-to-day operations of the company. Mr. Dawes is responsible for capital market research and manager due diligence at Persimmon. He holds a B.S. in Investment Finance from Wayne State University, and an MBA in Finance from the University of Notre Dame Graduate School of Business. Mr. Dawes is a Level II CFA Candidate.
Shawn Gibson, Partner, Senior Vice President, Persimmon Capital Management, LP
Shawn has over 15 years of experience with alternative investment strategies with expertise in derivatives, asset allocation, and hedge fund strategies. Prior to joining Persimmon in 2011, Mr. Gibson was the President and Founder of Gibson Volatility Management, a boutique investment advisor focused on managing option-based investment strategies designed to capture more equity upside than downside over a full market cycle. Prior to starting GVM, Shawn co-founded Park Ridge Asset Management, a boutique RIA designed to deliver sophisticated traditional and alternative investment solutions to high net worth and institutional investors. Shawn was formerly the Director of the Alternative Investments platform for BB&T Asset Management. In this role, Shawn developed and led the platform of various alternative investment strategies used by BB&T to improve portfolio diversification and manage portfolio risk. Previously, Shawn headed up the Equity Derivatives Group for Scott & Stringfellow, another BB&T affiliate, and was a market-maker and risk manager for one of the largest international options trading firms in the country in San Francisco, CA and Greenwich, CT. Shawn graduated with a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia.
